Supreme Court hears tobacco marketing case

The Supreme Court heard oral arguments in a case that will test the ability of states to regulate advertising claims. In Altria Group v. Good, the parent company of tobacco marketer Philip Morris USA is arguing that its compliance with FTC labeling regulations should immunize it from claims alleging violations of state regulations. Attorneys for three smokers who filed the suit in Maine argued that the marketing of so-called light cigarettes is deceptive.
