REITs post solid gains as apartment vacancies rise

Share prices for apartment REITs continue to climb in the face of historically high apartment vacancy rates. Research firm Reis said apartment vacancies nationwide have reached 7.8%, the highest figure since 1986. At the same time, apartment REITs such as Camden Property Trust and Avalon Bay are up. The reason is the fact the apartment sector's problems are well known and already were priced into the REIT shares, analysts said.
