Tax credit for new jobs gains support in Washington

The White House has spent several weeks researching the possibility of creating a tax credit for companies that create jobs, and the idea is gaining support from economists and lawmakers in both parties. Supporters say the credit could serve as an incentive for companies to start hiring. Meanwhile, critics say the credit would do little to ease the unemployment rate because businesses face a reduced demand for goods and services and so are not hiring.
