On-time performance improves again in August

The Department of Transportation says 79.7% of flights arrived on time in August, a gain of 1.3 percentage points compared with the same month last year. Mishandled baggage also fell from year-ago levels, and tarmac delays plunged by more than 50% in August compared with July. DOT says 39.3% of flight delays were attributable to weather, and a spokesman for the Air Transport Association noted that many delays were in the Northeast, "where we need air traffic control operational improvement."
