Barnier says a "level playing field" is needed for banks

Michel Barnier, internal-market commissioner for the EU, said countries, particularly the US, need to implement the proposed Basel III rules in a way that creates a "level playing field". If the US does not adopt the global capital requirements, banks across the EU could be at a disadvantage, Barnier said. "I will raise this question during my visit to the US at the end of this month," Barnier told the European Parliament.
