Data show 1 in 6 young UK students are struggling with maths, reading

A sixth of UK students ages 7 and 11 will not make expected progress in English and maths, according to new Department of Education data. Schools Minister Nick Gibb expressed concern that "thousands of children are condemned to struggle at secondary school and beyond unless they get the fundamentals of reading, writing and maths right at an early age."
