DOT approves trans-Pacific alliances for American, United

The Transportation Department on Wednesday granted antitrust immunity to three U.S. carriers seeking to establish trans-Pacific joint ventures with their Japanese partners. Regulators cleared the way for American Airlines to cooperate with Japan Airlines on pricing, routes and marketing, while United Airlines and Continental Airlines won similar approval for their alliance with All Nippon Airways.
