NYC wants to ban use of food stamps for sugary drinks

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg asked the USDA for permission to prohibit people from using food stamps to buy soda and other sugary drinks. The request is part of the city's aggressive anti-obesity campaign, but public health experts said a better approach would be an educational campaign. A spokeswoman for the American Beverage Association said, "This is just another attempt by government to tell New Yorkers what they should eat and drink."
