Study: New enzyme may boost biomass-to-fuel conversion

Researchers at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences have pinpointed an enzyme that could boost the conversion of biomass into alternative fuels, according to a report in the journal Science. The enzyme from the bacterium Serratia marcescens speeds up the breakdown of crystallized chitin, a tough substance similar to plant cellulose, the report said.
