Detroit makes progress toward inclusion of students with special needs

More Detroit students with disabilities are being educated this year in general-education classrooms as the district moves toward inclusive practices. Michigan began monitoring Detroit schools in 2008 after it found the district out of compliance with state goals for the inclusion of students with special needs. "We have a ways to go, but we are moving the dial in the right direction," district spokeswoman Kisha Verdusco said.
