Aon Hewitt: Defined-contribution plans hit participation record in 2012

Defined-contribution retirement plans set a record last year with 78% of eligible employees participating, Aon Hewitt said in a report. In addition, 72.5% of participating workers contributed beyond what their employers match, the report said. The average plan balance was $81,240, up from $57,150 when the recession began five years ago, Aon Hewitt said.
