Congressional brinkmanship threatens 2008 redux, Treasury warns

Despite a Treasury Department warning that a debt default could create a financial crisis of 2008 proportions, Congress remains mired in a government shutdown with no end in sight. The Treasury report found that a protracted government shutdown could make the economy more susceptible to the damaging impact of prolonged uncertainty over the debt ceiling.
