FDA OKs brachytherapy tool for treating skin cancer

The FDA has cleared Elekta unit Nucletron to market Esteya, an electronic brachytherapy tool designed to treat skin cancer. Simulating high-dose rate brachytherapy, the device positions a small X-ray source near the site of the lesion to allow optimal treatment with local radiation therapy application. The device also cuts treatment time and allows multiple lesions to be treated in one session.
