How microgrids can help combat climate change

As nations work to combat climate change by embracing renewable energy technologies, they could learn a lot from studying microgrid pilots such as those at the University of Texas at Austin and Borrego Springs, according to Lela Gucclone of the Rocky Mountain Institute. Gucclone writes that integrating distributed renewable energy assets into a microgrid not only produces a significant reduction in greenhouse gases, but offers operators more control and cuts costs over the long haul.
