Why schools should address physical disabilities in personnel training

School districts should create programs that include coaching, modeling and frequent feedback for teachers and paraprofessionals on proper techniques for lifting and maneuvering students with physical disabilities, asserts Kathy Espinoza, assistant vice president of ergonomics and safety for Keenan, an insurance brokerage firm. "Students may have brittle bones or attempt to go limp when being lifted," she said, adding, "These are things to be aware of and prepare for."
