In Oregon school, PE program provides outlet for students' energy

Sandy Virnig, principal of Gaffney Lane Elementary School, says a comprehensive physical education program that includes noontime intramural sports leagues has helped reduce the number of behavioral referrals. During recess, many children jog and then log their distances as they collectively try to accumulate 16,000 miles reflecting a route between all 50 state capitals and three Canadian provinces.
