FBI phishing case leads to charges against 100 worldwide

Fifty-three people in the U.S. and 47 people overseas have been charged in connection with a two-year FBI Internet-fraud investigation called "Operation Phish Phry." "The sophistication with which Phish Phry defendants operated represents an evolving and troubling paradigm in the way identity theft is now committed," said Keith Bolcar, the FBI's acting assistant director in Los Angeles. "Criminally savvy groups recruit here and abroad to pool tactics and skills necessary to commit organized theft facilitated by the computer."
