New Jersey boosts oversight of spending, contracting

New Jersey will scrutinize spending and contracting as part of an effort to control costs and eliminate fraud under an executive order announced this week by Gov. Jon Corzine. The order comes as the state prepares to evaluate bids for a $8.7 billion tunnel project between New Jersey and Manhattan. The order, which takes effect immediately, requires the state comptroller to monitor contract procurement by New Jersey Transit.
