The economic reports this week were mixed with some good news offsetting declines elsewhere in the economy. All eyes were on the employment report, the second to last before the election and, due to early voting, the most important one remaining. The report indicated another slow gain in nonfarm payrolls but due to a large gain in the households survey of the employed, the unemployment rate dropped to 7.8%, a rate last seen in January 2009.
