ComEd to delay smart meter rollout amid dispute with regulators

An ongoing dispute between Commonwealth Edison and Illinois regulators threatens to hold up the utility's grid modernization initiative -- including a planned smart meter rollout -- and cost as much as $100 million in annual revenue, the company said. ComEd and the Illinois Commerce Commission have been at loggerheads over how to fund the $2.6 billion plan, with regulators calling for rate reduction that greatly exceeds the $59 million in cuts proposed by the utility.
