Severed fiber cable disrupts Sprint network in West

Sprint Nextel restored service Monday afternoon after an outage that affected three states and caused flight delays at Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air. The wireless carrier, which blamed the blackout on a pair of severed fiber-optic cables, said it had restored service to Northern California, Oregon and Washington by 1:30 p.m. Pacific time, but not before the two airlines had canceled 70 flights.
