AHA calls on physicians to do more to help patients stem unhealthy behaviors

The American Heart Association has issued a policy statement urging physicians to address unhealthy habits among patients such as smoking and poor nutrition as intensively as hypertension, high cholesterol and other heart disease markers. The AHA said doctors must adopt the "five A's" approach, which includes assessing risky behavior, advising change and arranging follow-up. The statement appears in the journal Circulation.
