AHA calls on providers to do more to help patients stem unhealthy habits

The American Heart Association has issued a policy statement urging providers to address unhealthy habits among patients such as smoking and poor nutrition as intensively as hypertension, high cholesterol and other heart disease markers. The AHA said providers must adopt the "five A's" approach, which includes assessment of risky behavior, advising change and arranging follow-up. The statement appears in the journal Circulation.
