Better insulin sensitivity seen with islet cell transplant

A small study in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism showed islet cell transplantation was associated with reductions in mean A1C in patients with long-term type 1 diabetes. Researchers also found transplant patients attained significant improvements in total, hepatic and peripheral insulin sensitivity, despite taking immunosuppressive drugs linked to insulin resistance.
