Cat pinned by garage door among pet insurer's weirdest claims of the year

Veterinary Pet Insurance is hosting its fifth "Most Unusual Claim of the Year" contest, and a California cat is among this year's 11 finalists, chosen from the 80,000 claims submitted to VPI each month. Ariel was pinned under her owners' garage door and underwent $1,200 worth of care for her perforated liver, but her owners' pet insurance covered half of the cost. If she wins, Ariel will earn $10,000 for the hospital where she was treated, earmarked for patients whose owners can't afford their care.
