CFPB's Chopra: Student debt blocks home buying

Student-loan debt is acting as a drag on the economy, especially the housing market, as borrowers struggle with repayment and the federal government wields the power to garnishee wages, says Rohit Chopra, the student-loan ombudsman for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. "Three-fourths of the fall in household formation can be directly correlated to student debt," he said.
