CFPB's Chopra: Student debt blocks homebuying

Student loan debt is acting as a drag on the economy, especially the housing market, as borrowers struggle with repayment and the federal government wields the power to garnish wages, says Rohit Chopra, the student loan ombudsman for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. "Three-fourths of the fall in household formation can be directly correlated to student debt," he said.
