Data breach compromises records of 1,310 patients in N.C.

Gastonia, N.C.-based CaroMont Health announced a potential data breach affecting 1,310 patients that was discovered during a routine audit in August. The incident occurred when a CaroMont Medical Group staff member sent an unsecured e-mail that included patient records. Compromised data included patient names, birth dates and addresses, as well as the Medicare numbers for two patients.
