French Senate health bill proposes new wine tax, restrictions

A new health bill brought before the French Senate proposes a "behavior tax" on wine, as well as stronger label warnings about the effects of alcohol on health and new restrictions on the marketing and advertising of wine through social media. The French wine industry is working to lobby against the bill, which the industry says implies that wine is a danger to public health and that it would significantly damage perception of the staple inside and outside of the country.
