Judge rejects HSBC unit's attempt to overturn $1.5B verdict

A unit of HSBC Holdings has failed in its efforts to get a judge to undo a verdict that has left it on the hook for about $1.5 billion in damages. "This court expressly determines that there is no just reason for delay and directs that a final judgment be entered," according to U.S. District Judge Ronald Guzman. The case stems from allegedly misleading statements that were made about the unit's mortgage-lending procedures.
