Ohio issues voluntary painkiller guidelines for prescribers

Ohio officials, working with medical groups, issued new voluntary guidelines that encourage physicians to be very cautious in prescribing high doses of opioid painkillers on a long-term basis. The Ohio State Medical Association's Jeff Smith said that the guidelines could cause "a little disruption across the state in terms of pain care" but that the association will work to ensure patients continue to have access to treatment.
