Rx drug overdose, addiction doubled since 1999

A study from the Trust for America's Health found a twofold increase in the rates of prescription drug overdose and addiction in most states since 1999. The highest rate of drug overdose deaths was recorded in West Virginia, which saw a sixfold increase in that period. Many people have been helped by the development of oxycodone and other pain medications, but misuse has increased as well, the researchers said Monday.
