Samsung wants to be more than just a hardware power

Samsung Electronics may be the global smartphone leader, but the South Korean company wants to join rivals Apple, Google and Microsoft as a leading developer of wireless software, according to a published report that points to Samsung's increasing pace of acquisitions and higher Silicon Valley profile. The company is focusing largely on buying startups related to games, mobile search, social media and mapping-related services, according to documents that list some of the firms Samsung has eyed.
