Scan-to-buy methods proliferate for at-home impulse shopping

MasterCard is partnering with Condé Nast on ShopThis, which will allow digital readers to instantly purchase items mentioned in ads or editorial copy by simply tapping on a shopping-cart icon. Also, Peapod is readying a system for scanning grocery bar codes, placing deliverable groceries in a virtual cart, as part of a "wave of experiments at various companies [that] could take consumer convenience (and impulsiveness) to new heights," writes Hilary Stout.
