Study: U.K. grocery industry creates $11B in waste annually

U.K. grocers and food manufacturers generate 6.5 million metric tons, or $11 billion worth, of food and packaging waste each year, according to research by the Waste & Resources Action Program. The Food and Drink Federation says members have nearly halved waste, going from 17% in 2006 to 9% in 2009. They remain committed to waste prevention, the group says.
