L.A. District To Aid Slower Schools; Gov. Davis Signs Law Protecting Student Tipsters

Los Angeles Unified School District officials said Oct. 8 that the system is targeting 14 of its lowest-performing schools for extra help in an effort to avoid a state takeover. Elsewhere in the state, Gov. Gray Davis has signed legislation that would protect those students who report threats of violence by classmates from defamation lawsuits.
