Minnesota, other states turn down federal bridge funds

Transportation officials in Minnesota have declined more than $60 million in federal aid offered for substandard bridges since 2003, according to government records. Such funds have been made available to states since 1978, but many states, including Minnesota, choose to instead take federal dollars that can be spent on other road and bridge projects.
