Florida hospitals go digital with birth certificates

Some larger hospitals in Tampa, Fla., have started using portable a computer system that allows nurses to collect and enter birth certificate information in front of new parents in an effort to eliminate errors and speed up a usually cumbersome process. The parents sign a touchpad to complete the process, a Social Security number is automatically generated and parents can pick up the certificate before leaving the hospital.
