Record number of Indiana students register to take PSAT

A record-setting 70,000 Indiana 10th-graders registered for the PSATs this year, taking advantage of the state's offer to pay for the students to take the test. Last year, fewer than 42,000 students signed up. Educators said that taking the optional PSAT better prepares students to take the SATs and it also identifies students who may do well in Advanced Placement classes. The Indiana Department of Education wants to improve student performance in AP and other college-preparatory classes by 2010.
