Google exec asserts there's a fine line in patent reform

Google's top legal officer said Tuesday that although wireless companies want patent reform it will be a difficult goal because changes may have a negative effect on other industries. "I think what we need to do to is move past the one-size-fits-all and start thinking about software patents more specifically," said David Drummond. The Federal Trade Commission has reportedly been conducting an investigation into Google's Motorola Mobility unit over its wielding of standards-essential patents, those that are necessary to operate the phone.
