Darden investor urges spinoff of high-growth brands

Hedge fund Barington Capital Group is pushing Orlando-based Darden Restaurants to split the business into two companies, with one overseeing its Olive Garden and Red Lobster brands and the other focused on higher-growth chains such as Capital Grille. Barington, along with other investors, owns a 2.8% stake in the restaurant company. A spokesman for Darden said the company "will take the time necessary to thoroughly evaluate Barington's suggestions, just as the company does for any of its shareholders."
