Falls before surgery may predict older people's post-op complication risk

Nearly 60% of older people who reported a fall within the six months prior to bowel surgery had postoperative complications, according to a study in the JAMA Surgery. Of the patients who experienced a fall before a heart procedure, 39% suffered complications afterward. "It's one more marker for older adults that lets us see who is going to do poorly after an operation," lead author Dr. Thomas Robinson said.
