Federal incentive program drives growth in e-Rx use, study finds

The percentage of clinicians who use e-prescriptions rose from 7% in December 2008 to 54% last year, according to a study in The American Journal of Managed Care. The share of e-prescriptions during that period increased from 4% to about 45%. CMS launched the Electronic Prescribing Incentive Program in 2009, offering incentives for providers as well as grants to fill gaps in rural areas.
