Government shutdown has repercussions for U.S. supply chains, food safety

The ongoing shutdown of the U.S. government has some serious repercussions for the country's supply chains, particularly concerning the safety of food products, according to Edgar Asebey-Birkholm, partner and Food and Drug Administration practice group manager at law firm Roetzel & Andress. With FDA activities reduced, quality inspections of imported food products have been put on hold until the government resumes operations. "Without inspectors and active testing, the safety of these imported goods will certainly be compromised," he said.
