Nokia looks to lead the way in connected car development software

Finland-based Nokia is setting out to revolutionize the use of location technology in connected cars with the development of the HERE Auto software development kit, which allows developers to build safety applications that incorporate map data. The software kit, along with a standard mirroring approach Nokia is trying to establish among various car manufacturers, will allow developers to create car-specific apps that extend the mobile experience, says Floris van de Klashorst, Nokia's vice president of connected car. "For instance, it's very dangerous to use a Foursquare app on your phone while you're driving. But if you have heavy users that like to be alerted about friends in the environment and there is a nice integrated experience, you will have more users," van de Klashorst says.
