Researchers look to thwart would-be heart device hackers

The murder in an episode of "Homeland" of a fictional vice president when the bad guys remotely hack into his heart pacemaker is not so far-fetched, according to this article. The devices do connect with the Internet via Wi-Fi for monitoring but typically without security against hacking. Now researchers at Rice University are looking to provide that protection using a patient's own heartbeat pattern as a password.
