Study: Cell culture transplant shows promise in treating brain disorders

Brain cell culture transplant could benefit people with neurologic conditions including Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease, according to a study in The FASEB Journal. The study of 19 patients with Parkinson's disease involved the extraction and multiplication of brain cells during deep brain stimulation surgery. Researchers said that cultured brain cells eventually could generate specific cell types to treat specific neurological conditions.
