Study ties bisphosphonates to higher risk of abnormal heartbeat

A systematic review of 12 studies involving more than 190,000 patients showed bisphosphonate therapy was linked with a 27% higher risk of atrial fibrillation and 40% increased risk of serious atrial fibrillation. Bisphosphonate use, however, did not raise patients' risk of stroke or cardiovascular death. The findings appeared in the journal Chest.
