Weed control, frequent mowing should be part of fall lawn care

A fall lawn-care regimen should include a weed control program and frequent mowing, according to Richard Hentschel, a horticulture educator at the University of Illinois. "The lawns have had a good year to recover, and lawns are looking so much better, yet there will always be some areas in the lawn that could be improved," Hentschel said. He advised raising the mower deck slightly from its summer level, so the grass can provide shade for the soil.
