Study shows health benefits of widespread weight loss

A new study of the health effects of lifestyle changes in Cuba that followed an economic crisis shows that population-wide weight loss can have broad-reaching health benefits. The study shows that Cubans, who began eating less and walking more as a result of financial distress, experienced a 51% reduction in deaths due to Type 2 diabetes, a 35% drop in deaths from heart disease and 20% fewer deaths from stroke.
